Kratom Methods Of Preparation

There are a few popular methods of using powdered leaf, but the most common are with capsules or tablets, “toss and wash”, mixing with food, and preparation as a tea. The following is a guide to help users discover their favorite way to enjoy kratom:

Kratom Capsules and Tablets

Kratom capsules have become one of the most common ways people now use kratom. You can find pre-capsuled kratom in almost any head shop in the US while some choose to buy empty 00 or 000 capsules and capsule their kratom for themselves.

It’s important to note that 00 capsules are much better suited for kratom extract (due to the necessary dosage concentration of approximately 1/2 a gram to 1 gram.

000 capsules are better suited for regular kratom powdered leaf. The increased size allows them to hold up to 1 gram of leaf per capsule, minimizing the amount needed for a regular dose.

Toss and Wash

“Toss and wash” is basically just spooning the powder directly into your mouth and washing it down with a liquid. Kratom is known as a diuretic and is associated with dehydration. It is important when using this method that you hydrate. This could be with your favorite sports drink or you can just stick with water. The word hydrate comes from the Greek word for water, so its hard to find a better hydrating beverage.

This is commonly known as the most “difficult” method but is the quickest in a pinch and arguably gives some of the strongest effects.

The downside to this method is that the powder is incredibly dry and will stick to your mouth and throat, causing many to gag or cough “blow” the dry powder out of their mouth. If using this method of consumption, it is best to spoon small amounts at a time.

Mixing Kratom With Food

Kratom can also easily be mixed into a food.

ice cream and coffee prepOur favorites recipes include mixing with apple sauce or ice cream!

Other good suggestions include mixing with chocolate almond milk or chocolate protein powder.

Keep in mind that kratom has a strong flavor and may not mix well in certain foods. Also, you will not reduce the efficacy of kratom if you take it with small amounts of food or any of our recommended recipes.

  • Reddit User nicolio8699:
1/2 c vanilla yogurt (I used light & fit, but Greek would most likely be better because of its thicker consistency)
    1/4 c. lemon juice
    1 TBSP of powdered bali

Kratom Tea Preparation

Lastly, preparation as a tea is convenient and effective.

It is important to note that only powdered leaf should be used to make tea. Extracts should not be used.

Start by measuring out between 1 teaspoon of powdered leaf. Using an extract is not recommended, as the hot water may break down some of the alkaloids, there’s no added benefit, and it’s more expensive. Boil 2-4 cups of water. The more water you use, the less strong the flavor, but as long as you drink it all the effects will be exactly the same.

Put the kratom powder into a large cup or container with a pour lip, and pour the boiling water on top. Stir until it is thoroughly mixed. Be sure there aren’t any clumps of dry powder. I highly recommend adding sugar, artificial sweeter, or honey (honey works the best to cut the bitterness), and stir. If using artificial sweetener, 2 packets is a good starting amount. Let sit until cool (at least 15 minutes), stirring occasionally.

Once cooled, allow the powder to settle to the bottom. Pour the tea into a drinking cup, and enjoy! At this point you can add more sweetener to taste, or add water or ice cubes to dilute the flavor. As long as you drink all of the liquid, the effects will be the same.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 spearmint teabag
  • 1 chamomile teabag
  • 2 teaspoons kratom
  • sugar, honey or artificial sweetener to taste
  • 1 teapot (I use something like this)

Double/triple/etc. the quantities to make a bigger batch.

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a kettle.
  2. Put both teabags and kratom in the teapot and pour boiling water over top.
  3. Let it steep for 20-30 minutes.
  4. Remove teabags.
  5. Put teapot in fridge and let it sit overnight. Kratom will settle to the bottom.
  6. In the morning, slowly pour the tea into a glass. Be sure to stop pouring once you notice the plant matter is about to come out of the spout. There will be a layer of kratom sludge left in the teapot—just dump it down the sink.
  7. Sweeten tea and drink! (I like to use two packets of Sweet’N Low.)
Kratom Tea Potentiators

In simple terms, a potentiator is an additive used to enhance the effects or duration of kratom’s alkaloids. People use potentiators to lower one’s kratom dose and/or make kratom more effective over longer periods of time. Many of these potentiators are full of additional health benefits and will forever change the way you make your own kratom tea. There are a countless number of kratom tea combinations that you can use to boost your drinks potency, lower kratom tolerance, and increase overall health benefits.

Coffee and Kratom

The Mitragyna Speciosa, or better known as Kratom, is a close relative in the Rubiaceae family tocoffee, a plant species that millions of people around the globe consume daily. People around the globe use coffee for a variety of reasons, and like Kratom, not all coffee drinkers fit one particular profile. What we can find however, is overlapping uses, similarities and benefits between the two closely related plants. For instance, both Coffee and Kratom users report consuming to obtain an energy boost, facilitate social interactions, aiding physical performance/stamina, improving focus and enhancing one’s mood. But why are some coffee drinkers substituting their morning routine for Kratom, and others finding that combining the two works as a perfect blend?

  1. I just ordered 3 different strains of kratom hoping it will help me with a thirty + year’s of strong addicted life style as of this moment I am finally down to 15 mg per dose 4 times a day but being an addict and not wanting to go through withdrawal that’s why we have so many addicted people in the world is because we are scared of withdrawaling well anyway Shure hope this is not some bull because someone wants to sell leaves to get rich sceam I guess I’ll see I’ll be back to let everyone know what time it is

  2. Kratom in Orange juice is amazing!! After a while you will acquire quite the palette for it. Helps potentiate the kratom as well, especially on an empty stomach!

    1. Tea is awesome cause a lot of people get cramps/sour stomach from taking the actual powder. Tea fixes this completely. Also very important step they missed us to add lemon or lime juice or vinegar…not for taste for potency the acids do something to protect/draw out more of the active ingredients from the powder. I strain mine through coffee filters cause ingesting any of the powder itself bothers my tummy.

      1. Do you mind sharing your exact process because I’ve developed a very irritated stomach by toss and washing and I know how to make large batches but not smaller batches which is what I need .

    2. OJ is awesome, Simply is my fav. But have heard that using grapefruit instead of OJ helps to potentiate and make it faster acting. 5 – 10 min. instead of 20 – 40.

  3. The easiest way to consume is to add kratom to a small bottle with a lid, add limeade or lemonade, shake well, and drink. There will be kratom still in the bottle so just add more liquid and repeat until all is gone. Its simple and in my experience the citrus juices go best with the flavor of the kratom to cut down on the terrible kratom taste. But any juice, or even just water will work. Enjoy.

Without a doubt citrus juice is the easiest and best. I use oj. You can easily develop quite a taste for it.

  4. I have personally found the best method to be taking the powder directly, without making it into tea or mixing with food or the like.

Reading others, it seems like most put the powder in their mouth first, and then a drink to wash it down. I put water in my mouth first, tilt my head back, and dump a 1/2 teaspoon on top of the water before quickly gulping it down. The majority floats on the water and ends up in your stomach without touching your tongue or you tasting it. Another swig of water washes down the small amount that doesn’t go down with the first gulp. Almost no taste whatsoever, and definitely no powder coughs or bitter sludge stuck in your mouth.

Using a flavored beverage would likely would even better.

    1. Man your method is AWESOME! I just got my first bag of powder last night, I tried mixing it with juice and it was disgusting. I tried your method and it was so fast and easy, no mixing or brewing just down my throat and I never tasted a thing. The good thing is you can use anything to drink. So thanks for the advice.

    1. I tried it once, was terrible. My right eye was so red for about 4-5 hours, and it was burning. Never felt the effects. Made $50 though

    2. Hi Tracy! I hate to be negative, but I am worried your question might cause people to say it’s a drug. Might you be able to remove it? It looks like you got your answer. Don’t do it! 😆

  5. My favorite and most easy way is mixing with a new cold bottle of odwalla or naked brand juices. My fave is the pineapple banana apple. I pour just under half out at first, into separate cup. Then add my kratom. Then reseal lid and shake extremely well until all of the kratom uhh completely broken down with no more powder chunks. Then add in a lil bit more juice shake again for best taste. It just tastes like a really strong tea, but is super palliative and easy to get down. No boiling. No awful toss n wash. Once I finish, I put the remaining juice in and shake up again to get rid of excess kratom inside still. That’s it. Easy peasy!! I’d highly recommend this way, especially if your struggling with ways to get it down. This has always worked so easy for me and it kicks in in 35 to 55 mins. Best on empty stomach. It works wonders!!

  6. Skimming the advice about making kratom tea, I see nothing about adding acidic liquid to the brew water to help draw out alkaloids. Making tea this is *essential*. & of course you can use hot water! i make my kratom tea in a coffee percolator. drip coffee machine is fine too. french press with lightly boiling water is fine too. the important thing is to add a little splash of apple cider vingar, lemon or lime juice. promise it’s well worth it to make tea, especially if your digestive system can’t handle the powder ~ like mine.

  7. On your site, in the list at the left of the screen, is listed Cannabidiol and Kava, but I don’t see Cannabidiol anywhere on your site and I didn’t find your email or where to go to ask questions.

  8. How I drink Kraton in Golden Tea
I brew my Kraton the same as most of you letting it brew for about 20-30 minutes. But right before I drink I warm back up and add 1-2 TBS of my Golden Tea Mix which I keep on the counter and large splash of milk.
My Golden Tea Mix contains the following!
1-pint Raw Unfiltered Honey ( if it does not crystalize it is not Raw unfiltered Honey)
    6TBS Turmeric
    4TBS Ginger
    4TBS Ceylon “true” Cinnamon
    1/4 TBS Nutmeg
1/4 TBS Black Pepper is important, Why?
Piperine in pepper promotes the rapid absorption of certain chemicals from the gastrointestinal tract, protecting them from being broken down by chemicals in the intestinal lumen and by enzymes that occur in the cells lining of intestines.
    1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper

    1. I beg to differ with you about the crystals in the honey. Only Tupelo Honey does not crystalize. It is the honey that is derived from the bees consuming the nectar from the Tupelo trees in Northern Florida and South Georgia. Look it up and you will see. It also has a low glycemic index {high in fructose and low in glucose} so it can be used by diabetics.

  9. While I respect the opinions of those who make tea, I feel you are wasting a significant amount of the herb by dumping the ‘sludge’. If you feel your tea tolerance is high try a much smaller quantity agitated to suspend the grains of ground plant and drink so that you don’t leave any waste. I personally mix a teaspoon of high quality material with a strong cup of coffee, stir vigorously until the dry material is suspended and there are no clumps, add some milk which cuts the bitterness and (unsure about this) the fats may help absorption. I find that even after a year of regular use a teaspoon is quite enough!

    1. Hilarious…so true..gag…but the relief is so worth it…and I just take a big drink of water and eat a cracker or something tasty.
